Dr. Michael Johnson says;

You Are A Misfit!

Yes indeed you are.  No matter how you try, you just don’t fit in.  Oh yes, for a brief time everyone thinks you are cool and with it.  However, once the styles of music, hair, clothes, or hip sayings change, there you are again, a misfit.  So it is with all of us.  We are misfits, who are made to feel unfit.

So, what I try to do is to keep abreast of the latest in everything.  I watch the latest movies, stay up with the latest gossip, and sometimes spread it myself.  On occasion I listen to the latest news of world and local events.  I may meet an intellectual now and then.

When it is time to go to church I pick up the best looking copy of my Bible (haven’t read the others much anyway) and put on what is acceptable dress for the day.  I must fit in.  For those 2 hours or so, (hope the preacher finishes on time), I clap and try to remember the words to the songs.  Those overhead projectors make this a lot easier.

What I don’t really grasp is that I will never fit in.  There will always be another group of people who act differently than I, have different values and in my attempt to fit in, I compromise who I claim to be and what God means for me to become.

I will only fit in when I realize that I am a misfit!  That is right.  I don’t belong to the values, society, cultural norms of this world.  I am a misfit and God wants me to remain a misfit.  The world tells me that I must conform to be like them or I am unfit to be one of them.  God tells me I am a misfit for the world and it is He alone that can make me fit for His kingdom.

He alone is able to define who I am and what He wants me to be.  He created me for a specific purpose and until I admit and submit to what He wants for me, I will forever feel unfit by the world standards.

Go ahead and admit it, you are a misfit.  That is where God wants you.  You don’t belong to this world.  He has better things for you now and for eternity.  Until you admit you are a misfit, you will always feel unfit by the world’s standards.

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
